Generals Make Series of Roster Moves Thursday

Montgomery, AL - The Seattle Mariners have made a series of roster moves on Thursday that affects the Jackson Generals roster. Jackson has added 2012 Southern League All-Star OF Denny Almonte and catcher Michael Dowd. Catcher Brandon Bantz has been promoted to AAA Tacoma, INF Patrick Brady and RHP Andrew Kittridge have been placed on the 7-day DL. That leaves Jackson's roster with 24 active players, 12 pitchers and 12 position players.

ALMONTE, 24, began the 2013 season with AAA Tacoma, batting .163, with 3 home runs and 9 RBI in 28 games. Almonte was placed on disabled list in late was sent to extended spring in Peoria, AZ. Last season Almonte was a Southern League All-Star and played in 124 games for the Jackson Generals. He batted .249, with 12 home runs, 20 doubles, 5 triples and 53 RBI. He was the Mariners 2nd round pick (75th overall) in the 2007 draft out of Florida Christian School in Miami, FL.

DOWD, 23, played in 22 games for High Desert this season, batting .275, with 1 home run, 5 doubles and 7 RBI. Dowd is a career .271 batter and was the Mariners' 12th round pick in the 2011 draft out of Franklin Pierce University in Rindge, NH. He resides in East Bridgewater, MA.

BANTZ, 26, appeared in 14 games for the Generals this season batting .178, with 1 home run and 4 RBI. Bantz returns to Tacoma where he spent the entire 2012 season. With Tacoma last year Bantz batted .229, with 2 home runs and 14 RBI in 34 games. Bantz is a career .227 hitter and was the Mariners' 30th round draft choice in 2009 out of Dallas Baptist University in Dallas, Texas.

Jackson's roster currently holds at 25 players, with four on the disabled list.
