Birmingham Barons News Release

An 8th inning two-run home run by Ryan Fisher broke a 3-3 tie and gave the Jacksonville Suns a 5-3 win in game one of their five-game series in front of 5,830 fans at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.

After trading zeros for the first three innings, the Barons broke through in the fourth thanks to an error by first baseman Mark Canha, who mishandled a ground ball allowing two runs to score.

The Suns would jump in front after a three-run inning in the fifth as Christian Yelich smacked an RBI double and Jake Marisnick swatted a two-run home run against Barons starter Stephen McCray.

Trailing by a run in the 7th, Michael Early crushed his fourth home run of the season, tying the score at 3-3.

Ryan Kussmaul (2-1, 2.10) relieved in the 8th and allowed the decisive home run to Fisher, his second long ball of the season. The Barons were unable to mount a rally in the 9th, falling to 28-18 on the season while Jacksonville improved to 25-17.

The Barons will look to rebound tomorrow night as LHP Spencer Arroyo (3-2, 2.10) takes the hill against RHP Sam Dyson (1-3, 2.54). First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 PM CDT.
