Chattanooga Lookouts News Release
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - It took 12 innings and four hours of baseball to finally determine a winner in Wednesday night's epic match-up between Mobile and Chattanooga. After a four-inning stalemate that took the game into extra-innings, the BayBears seemingly locked up the win with two runs in the top of the twelfth, but the Lookouts came through with three runs in the bottom portion of the inning to steal an 8-7 win.
The Lookouts offense struck first in the bottom of the second, as the red-hot Blake Smith took a Tyler Skaggs offering over the center-field wall.
Brian Cavazos-Galvez ended a 24 at-bat hitless streak by blasting a two-run shot in the bottom of the third inning to give the Lookouts a 3-0 edge.
Lookouts starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi, who only threw one inning as scheduled, and Chris Withrow were coquettish with the Mobile hitters through four innings, yielding just one hit and accruing seven strikeouts; however, the BayBears finally put an end to the teasing in the fifth by finally producing a run on a Skaggs RBI single.
Chattanooga countered with two more runs in the bottom of the fifth on another two-run homer by Cavazos-Galvez.
Mobile exploded in the seventh with four runs to tie-up the game. With two runners on, Kyle Greene hit a ball to deep center-field, which glanced off the glove of a diving Anthony Jackson, and resulted in two runs and Greene reaching third on the play. David Nick followed with an infield single to put the BayBears within one run. With Withrow now out of the ballgame, Blake Johnson entered the game and proceeded to surrender a run-resulting double to Wladimir Sutil. Johnson was able to strike out Matt Davidson to quell the rally, but the damage had been done, and the game was now tied.
The game remained tied until the top of the twelfth inning, when Krauss hit a two-RBI double off of a fatigued Luis Vazquez (1-1) to put the score at 7-5.
The resilient Lookouts quickly loaded the bases in the bottom portion of the twelfth, and the BayBears proceeded to unravel. Pinch hitter and Saturday's projected starting pitcher Aaron Miller quickly fell behind in the count, but did not bail out on an inside pitch, and took a hit by pitch. Travis Denker then hit a ball to deep right field, which tied up the game and allowed runners to advance a base. After a Griff Erickson intentional walk to load the bases, Rafael Ynoa grounded out to first baseman Yazy Arbelo, who perplexingly decided to go for the force out at first with just one out. The miscue allowed J.T. Wise to score the winning run.
The Chattanooga Lookouts and Mobile BayBears will continue their five-game series at 7:15 P.M., tomorrow. Tickets for this game or any other Lookouts home game can be purchased at the Lookouts Box Office at AT&T Field, online at www.lookouts.com, or by calling (423) 267-4849.
