
Jackson Wins Third Straight, 5-1 Over Smokies

JACKSON, TENN. (APRIL 25, 2012) - The Generals won their third straight on Wednesday night at Pringles Park over the Tennessee Smokies, 5-1. Jackson boasts the best record in the Southern League at14-7, leading the North Division by four games over Tennessee and Huntsville.
The Generals jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning on Wednesday. Chris Pettit, Gabriel Noriega and Francisco Martinez had RBI's in the inning in which eight Generals came to the plate.
After Tennessee brought in a run in the fourth inning, Jackson picked up solo homers from Jesus Sucre in the sixth and Joe Dunigan in the seventh to take a 5-1 advantage.
Denny Almonte led the Generals with a 3-for-4 night at the dish, extending his hitting streak to seven games. Rich Poythress was 1-for-3 with a double and run extending his hitting streak to nine games.
Andrew Carraway (3-0) picked up the win on the mound and is the first General to three wins. He allowed just one run on five hits over five innings striking out three and walking one. Brian Moran, Yoervis Medina and Stephen Pryor combined for four shutout innings out of the pen Wednesday. Smokies starter Brooks Raley (1-1) suffered the loss.
The Generals continue their five-game series with the Smokies on Thursday night at Pringles Park, with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m. The Generals will send LHP James Paxton (1-0, 4.15) to the mound against Smokies RHP Nick Struck (2-1, 2.45). Thursday is Dollar Night with $1 general admission tickets, hot dogs, popcorn, 12 oz sodas and draft beer. It is Union University Night and there will be a post-game concert by Justin Reid.
