JACKSON, Tenn. - Center fielder Jim Adduci finished 3-for-4, but the Tennessee Smokies fell to the first-place Jackson Generals, 5-1, in the opener of a five-game series on Wednesday night at Pringles Park. With the victory, Jackson (14-7) leads Tennessee (10-11) by four games in the North Division standings.

After Tennessee left the bases loaded in the top of the second, the Generals struck Tennessee starter Brooks Raley for three runs in the bottom of the frame to open the scoring. Rich Poythress led off with a double and scored two batters later on an RBI single to center by Chris Pettit gave the Generals a 1-0 lead. Jackson later used an RBI groundout by Gabriel Noriega and a run-scoring single off the bat of Francisco Martinez to extend its advantage to 3-0.

Tennessee used a two-out rally in the fourth inning to break through against Jackson starter Andrew Carraway when Adduci doubled and Jonathan Mota singled him home to make it a 3-1 contest.

A solo home run by Jackson's Jesus Sucre in the sixth inning chased Raley from the contest and gave the Generals a 4-1 lead. Then in the seventh, Joe Dunigan led off by lining his league-leading sixth home run of the season over the center field wall to extend Jackson's advantage to 5-1.

Carraway (3-0) surrendered one run on five hits over five frames to pick up the win. Raley (1-1) went 5.1 innings, allowing four runs on seven hits, suffering his first loss of the season.

With his 3-for-4 effort, Adduci now has seven hits in his last 10 at-bats.

The Smokies and Generals continue their five-game series on Thursday night at 8:05 ET at Pringles Park when Tennessee sends right-hander Nick Struck (2-1, 2.45 ERA) to the mound for his fifth start of the season while Jackson counters with southpaw James Paxton (1-0, 4.15 ERA).
