Chattanooga Lookouts News Release

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Chattanooga starting pitcher Alberto Bastardo dominated the Stars on the mound, while the Lookouts' offense took care of business on their end of the equation in a 7-3 win against Huntsville in Saturday night action at AT&T Field.

After three innings of much-ado-about-nothing baseball, the Stars broke the torpid pace with a run in the fourth. With two outs already on the board, Jonathan Lucroy nailed a double to left. Taylor Green followed with an RBI single to give the Stars a 1-0 lead.

Chattanooga quickly countered in the fourth with two runs. Lucas May started the rally with a one out single and made his way to second on a subsequent Russ Mitchell walk. Eddy Perez then hit a single to right to score May and advance Mitchell to third. An Adam Godwin sharply hit grounder down the third-base line was snagged by a diving Taylor Green, but Godwin's blazing speed forced a hurried throw, and Godwin was safe at first. The single by Godwin scored Mitchell from third. The Lookouts kept rolling in the fifth. Leadoff singles by Bastardo and James Tomlin set-up a two-RBI double from Ramon Nivar. The hit extended the Nivar's hitting streak to a team-high 13 games.

Despite facing a 4-1 deficit, the pesky Stars kept chipping away. A Kevin Melillo solo shot in the seventh and Drew T. Anderson RBI sacrifice fly in the eighth put the score at 4-3.

With Huntsville breathing down their necks, the Lookouts added some insurance run in the eighth. Josh Bell led off with a double. A fielding error by Chuck Caufield on a ball hit by Lucas May enabled May to reach first and Bell to cross home.

After a Mitchell ground out, which advanced May to second, and Eddy Perez intentional walk, Adam Godwin blasted a two-RBI double to right. The Lookouts now held a 7-3 lead, which they would hold onto until the conclusion of the game. Bastardo (2-1) pitched seven innings, yielding just two runs (one earned) on four hits and two walks. He struck out five in the stellar performance. David Welch dropped to 4-7 on the season for Huntsville. In four innings of work, he surrendered four runs, eight hits, and two walks. He struck out three.

The Lookouts will be off until July 15th due to the All-Star break. They will then hit the road to play a five-game away series against the Carolina Mudcats. The boys return to AT&T Field on July 21 to play five against the Mobile BayBears.
