Jaxx back to winning ways with walk-off win over Mobile

JACKSON, TENN. - Johan Limonta drove in Marshall Hubbard from third in the bottom of the ninth inning at Pringles Park giving the Diamond Jaxx (14-6) a 4 to 3 win over Mobile (10-9). The walk-off hit is the third in the last 10 games and widens the lead in the division standings to 4.5 games over Chattanooga. Marshall Hubbard, Johan Limonta and Matt Mangini each had multi-hit games in the victory. The Jaxx win their seventh series of the season and the third straight with the win on Saturday night leading into the All-Star break.

The Jaxx opened the scoring in the bottom of the first as Mike Wilson brought home Mel Stocker with a broken bat single to right. Stocker led off the inning with a double.

Mobile did not trail for long when Ricardo Sosa launched a Steve Bray pitch in the top of second out to left to tie the game at one each.

Matt Mangini drove in Travis Garcia to push the Jaxx back on top for the moment. Garcia got his first Diamond Jaxx hit, a double to open the bottom of the second. The Jaxx led 2 to 1.

In the top of the fourth inning, Matt Tupman doubled in Bryan Byrne once again knotting the game, this time at two each. In the bottom of the fourth, Matt Mangini drove in his second run of the game and brought in Johan Limonta with his fourth three bagger of the season. The Jaxx once again jumped ahead 3-2.

In a bizzare play in the top of the fifth inning, Pete Clifford hit an inside the park homerun to center tying the game at three. Diamond Jaxx center fielder, Greg Halman crashed into the wall and was removed from the game.

Diamond Jaxx starter, Steve Bray went 5.2 innings on three days of rest, allowing three runs on six hits while striking out five. Justin Souza, the scheduled starter was traded during the day to Oakland for A's third baseman Jake Hanahan. Bray takes his seventh no decision in his last nine starts.

Ricky Orta (2-1) earned the win going 3.1 innings in relief for the Jaxx. Orta sat down four and walked none in his 16th relief outing of the season. The loss was given to Scott Maine (2-3) after surrendering a run on two hits in 1.1 innings of work.

In the bottom of the ninth, Marshall reached on a one out single. Mike Wilson followed with a walk and both advanced on a wild pitch by Maine. Johan Limonta flied a ball to the wall in left scoring Hubbard and securing the series victory over Mobile. The Jaxx take six of ten from the BayBears in 2009.

The Jaxx will return from the All-Star break on Wednesday night in Montgomery, AL against the Biscuits. The Jaxx will toss RHP Kyle Parker (5-4, 3.56). Parker leads the Jaxx pitching staff with 17 starts. The Jaxx began the season with Montgomery and will face the Biscuits for the third series this season.
