Chattanooga Lookouts News Release
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Yesterday, RP Logan Bawcom and SP Ethan Martin were both traded in separate deals by the Los Angeles Dodgers. Both prospects were active players on the Chattanooga Lookouts roster prior to the moves. In addition, RP Eric Eadington was added to the Lookouts roster from Rancho Cucamonga (A+), where he had served as the team's closer before his promotion.
Bawcom, 23, who had collected 13 saves (t-5th in Southern League) for the Lookouts this season, was traded along with outfielder Leon Landry (Rancho Cucamonga) to Seattle for relief pitcher Brandon League. Bawcom, the Dodgers' 17th round selection in the 2010 draft, had posted a 3-3 record with a 2.60 ERA in 27 relief appearances for the Lookouts. In 34.2 innings of work, he yielded 30 hits, 16 walks, one home run, and 36 strikeouts. Bawcom was promoted to Chattanooga from Rancho Cucamonga on May 10th of this year. He has been assigned by the Seattle Mariners organization to the Jackson Generals of the Southern League.
Martin, the Dodgers' first-round selection in the 2008 draft out of Toccoa, Georgia, entered the season ranked as the 17th best prospect in the Dodgers organization per Baseball America. Martin, who posted a 9-7 record with a 5.95 ERA between Rancho Cucamonga and Chattanooga last season, was among the Southern League leaders in ERA (3.85 - 5th), strikeouts (112 - 2nd ), wins (8 - t-3rd), and batting average against (.214 - 1st) for the Lookouts this season. Martin was packaged with former Lookouts relief pitcher Josh Lindblom, who had spent the entire 2012 season with Los Angeles, and a player-to-be-named- later or cash for OF Shane Victorino. Martin has been assigned to Reading, the AA affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies.
Eadington, a left-handed pitcher, has split time between Great Lakes and Rancho Cucamonga this season. Overall, he has gone 2-1 with a 3.20 ERA and 23 saves in 42 games. In 50.2 innings pitched between the two levels, he has accrued 33 strikeouts against 29 hits and 14 walks. Eadington signed as an non-drafted free agent on June 29, 2011 out of Harvard University.
Over the past few days, a flurry of other transactions have occurred that have affected the Lookouts. 1B/C J.T. Wise was activated off the disabled list, INF Travis Denker was released, OF Kyle Russell was placed on the disabled list, OF Brahiam Maldonado was activated off of the disabled list, RP Luis Vasquez was promoted to Albuquerque (AAA), and RP Steven "Paco" Rodriguez was promoted to Chattanooga from Great Lakes.
