Mississippi Braves News Release

Montgomery, AL - Through four innings, Gary Moran had faced just one over the minimum and had allowed only two singles to the Montgomery Biscuits. But in the fifth, Kyeong Kang changed all that with one swing of the bat.

Kang hit a two run home run to right, his thirteenth homer of the year, and the Montgomery Biscuits never looked back, defeating the Mississippi Braves 7-1 on Wednesday night at Riverwalk Stadium.

Montgomery (23-16; 59-48) tacked on another run on an Omar Luna RBI double in the sixth, bringing in Ty Morrison for the third run of the day. And when a seventh inning spark had the Braves (17-21; 47-61) threatening to get back in it, the Biscuits pulled away again.

With one out in the seventh, Joe Leonard saw nine pitches before hitting the 10th for a ground-rule double to center. A batter later, Tim Smith fought off a pitch on the hands to left-center for an RBI single. That made it 3-1, but the Braves came no closer.

Montgomery scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh, highlighted by Hak-Ju Lee's two-run triple. The triple extended his on-base streak to 44 straight games and his hit streak to eight games.

Gary Moran took the loss for Mississipi. He allowed seven runs - three earned - on ten hits over 6 2/3 innings. He struck out seven, one off his season best, but it was his ninth loss of the season. Matt Buschmann took the win for Montgomery, his fifth, after allowing just a run on five hits in 6 1/3 innings.

Centerfielder Keenan Wiley led the Braves at the plate with two hits in four at-bats.

The Braves loss evens the series at 2-2 with Thursday night's 7:05 PM CT series finale serving as the rubber match. Zeke Spruill (7-10, 3.88) toes the rubber for the Braves against right-hander Nick Barnese (1-0, 4.55). Fans can listen live on 103.9 WYAB and online at MississippiBraves.com beginning at 6:30 PM CT with the Vicksburg Toyota "Countdown to First Pitch."
