Mobile BayBears News Release

The Mobile BayBears split Tuesday's doubleheader against the Jacksonville Suns at Hank Aaron Stadium. Mobile topped Jacksonville 3-2 in ten innings for the win in game one when Matt Davidson drew a two-out, bases loaded walk in the bottom of the tenth inning, scoring RHP Bo Shultz for the game-winning run. In game two, Jacksonville outscored Mobile 15-3 in seven innings for the victory. After game one went three innings longer than the scheduled seven innings, the final out of game two wasn't recorded until early Wednesday morning at 1:05 AM.

In game one, Jake Smolinski gave the Suns an early 1-0 with a solo home run in the top of the third inning, but the BayBears rallied to take a 2-1 lead in the fifth inning. Davidson hit an RBI double that scored Chris Owings for the first run, and David Nick drew a bases loaded walk to allow Davidson to cross the plate for the BayBears second run. The Suns tied the game at 2-2 when Kyle Skipworth hit a solo home run, while Jacksonville held Mobile scoreless until the tenth inning.

The Suns scored two runs in the first inning of game two, but Mobile rallied in the bottom half of the first inning, taking a 3-2 lead. Brett Clevlen plated Owings with a RBI single and David Nick connected on a two-run single, plating both Davidson and Clevlen. The three runs in the first inning would be the BayBear's only runs of the game. Jacksonville posted a 7-3 lead after plating three runs in the fifth inning, but added seven more runs in the top half of the seventh inning.

The BayBears and Suns continue the five game series with game four scheduled for Wednesday, August 1, at 7:05 PM.
