Chattanooga Lookouts News Release

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - In a game featuring solid pitching, a three-run sixth inning for the Lookouts proved to be crucial in a Chattanooga 4-2 conquest of the Montgomery Biscuits in Thursday night action at AT&T Field.

After three innings of shutout ball, the Biscuits broke the ice in the fourth. Singles by Rhyne Hughes and John Jaso paved the way for a Chris Nowak RBI ground out.

The Biscuits added one more run in the sixth on a Gabriel Martinez RBI single.

Down 2-0, the Lookouts would score three runs in the sixth and never look back.

With Montgomery starting pitcher James Houser out of the game, Shaun Cumberland greeted reliever Jason Cromer (1-2) with a single to begin the rally. Sean Henry then laid down a beautiful bunt out of Cromer's reach towards second baseman Josh Asanovich which he was able to beat out for a hit. Tonys Gutierrez followed with a sac bunt in which all runners reached safely, as a throw to third did not beat a fleet-footed Cumberland. The Lookouts' dirty work paid off, as a Justin Turner single brought home Cumberland. Chris Valaika further capitalized by nailing a two-RBI single, giving the Lookouts a 3-2 edge.

A Gutierrez soaring blast over the right field wall gave the Lookouts an insurance run and a 4-2 lead.

Pedro Viola would earn his second save of the season by throwing the final two frames for the Lookouts. He struck out five batters in the process, while yielding just a hit.

James Avery improved to 2-2 on the season by throwing six innings of two-run ball. He surrendered six hits and one walk, while striking out five.

The Lookouts and Montgomery will play the final game of the series, tomorrow at 7:15. Tickets for this games or any other Lookouts home game can be purchased at the Lookouts Box Office at AT&T Field, online at www.lookouts.com, or by calling (423) 267-4849.
