Mississippi Braves News Release
Tommy Hanson couldn't have asked for a better AA debut, but since that awesome outing on May 13th, the big righty has struggled in his last two outings. He took the hill against West Tenn Thursday night and tossed an absolute gem. With Hanson dealing on the hill and the offense cranking at the plate, the M-Braves took their third game in this series to win their second consecutive series and their third consecutive series at home.
After Hanson got out of the first unscathed, the M-Braves' bats went to work in the home-half of the inning. Matt Young and Jason Perry hit back-to-back singles to put runners at the corners with one out. Young came in to score and Perry moved to second on a wild pitch. After Kala Ka'aihue walked, another wild pitch moved Perry and KK to third and second, respectively. Van Pope doubled down the left field line plating Perry and Ka'aihue to give the Braves a 3-0 lead. Derrick Arnold plated Pope with a single to right-center and the M-Braves led 4-0.
Perry's 12th homer of the year gave Mississippi a 5-0 lead in the third and his 13th homer of the year gave the M-Braves a 6-0 lead in the fifth.
West Tenn got on the board in the sixth when Jeffrey Dominguez doubled and came around to score on a double by Brent Johnson. The M-Braves got the run back in the bottom of the inning when JC Holt singled home Jose Camarena. After six, Mississippi led 7-1.
Dominguez scored the D-Jaxx second run in the top of the eighth. He reached on an infield single and moved to second on an errant throw by Pope. Dominguez moved to third on a groundout by Luis Valbuena and scored on a groundout by Michael Saunders. After eight, Mississippi led 7-2.
On the hill, Hanson gave up a run on three hits through six innings of work and left the game with a 7-1 lead. For his efforts, Hanson improved to 2-2 on the year. Mike Gonzalez came on in the seventh for his first rehab appearance. He gave the M-Braves one scoreless inning of relief. Michael Nix gave up an unearned run in his inning of work and Luis Valdez tossed a shutout ninth.
Justin Thomas gave up six runs on eight hits through 4.1 innings and fell to 3-5 on the year. Roman Martinez tossed two-thirds scoreless and Marwin Vega gave up a run in an inning of work. Jason Mackintosh threw two scoreless frames for the D-Jaxx.
Mississippi and West Tenn will wrap up this five-game series tomorrow night at Trustmark Park at 7:05 ct. The Braves will send righty Jerome Gamble (0-3, 3.58) to the hill in search of his first win of the year while the D-Jaxx will counter with lefty Ryan Ketchner (3-1, 4.26) who's going for his fourth W.
Friday night will be Star Wars Night at the ballpark and the first 2,000 fans will receive a free M-Braves baseball.
