Montgomery Biscuits News Release

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The Chattanooga Lookouts (27-27) came from behind for the second night in a row on Thursday to beat the Montgomery Biscuits (26-28) at AT&T Field, 4-2.

Biscuits starter James Houser Jr. pitched well for Montgomery, holding the Lookouts down through five innings of work. Houser struck out five and walked three, giving up just two hits and no runs on only 68 pitches.

Surprisingly, Houser did not come out for a sixth inning of work and left a one run lead in the hands of reliever Jason Cromer. Montgomery had taken the lead on a fielder's choice ground out from third baseman Chris Nowak that plated Rhyne Hughes in the top of the fourth. Cromer did not fair well, giving up four earned runs on five hits in just two innings of work.

Shaun Cumberland, Sean Henry and Tonys Gutierrez all came around to score in the sixth and Gutierrez topped off the offensive attack with a moon shot home run over the right field fence in the eighth inning.

Besides the 3-for-4 effort of Hughes, the Biscuits did not have much going on offense, especially in the later innings. Chattanooga reliever Pedro Viola entered the game with a runner on in the eighth and struck out five consecutive batters of the seven total he faced. Viola would notch his second save of the season, securing the win for Lookouts starter James Avery. Avery finished a quality start after six innings of work and allowed two runs on six hits, while striking out five and walking one.

The rubber match and final game of the series will come to a head tomorrow night, as the Biscuits try to win their first ever series against the Lookouts. Richard De Los Santos will face southpaw and former Oakland Athletics farmhand Ben Jukich, Friday evening at 6:15 Central Time.
