Published on August 12, 2023 under Southern League (SL)
Chattanooga Lookouts News Release
The Chattanooga Lookouts pitching staff, headlined by starter Sam Benschoter, threw a shutout and recorded 15 strikeouts in their 2-0 win over Pensacola.
In the first inning, Rece Hinds clobbered his 19th homer of the year, a two-run shot, to give the team the 2-0 lead. The two-run advantage was all the team's pitching staff needed. Benschoter only allowed three hits in his five innings and fanned six. The right-hander now has 105 strikeouts on the year which is seventh in the Southern League.
After Benschoter left in the fifth, Stevie Branche came in and struck out the side. Relievers Pedro Garcia, Andy Fisher, and Ryan Meisinger combined to throw 2.1 scoreless innings with five strikeouts to close out the contest. Meisinger earned his team-high 10th save.
Tomorrow Chattanooga will look to win their season high sixth straight game and complete their first series sweep of the season. Right-hander Julian Aguiar will face off against the Blue Wahoos for the second time in this series. In his first outing, he threw seven shutout innings.
First pitch for tomorrow's game is at 2:15 p.m. with gates opening at 1:00 p.m.
