CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Chattanooga ended the first-half of the 2009 season on a solid note with a 5-4 win over the Mississippi Braves in Sunday afternoon action at AT&T Field.

Mississippi jumped off to an early 1-0 lead in the first. Matt Young began the inning with a double and advanced to third on a Concepcion Rodriguez ground out. Willie Cabrera then hit a sacrifice fly to left to plate Young. Chattanooga countered with a run of their own in the bottom of the second on consecutive doubles from Joe Becker and Gabriel Gutierrez. The M-Braves manufactured another run in the third. Travis Jones set the table with a single to right, and Edgar Osuna advanced Jones to second on a sacrifice bunt.

Young followed with an RBI single to put the score at 2-1. The see-saw battle continued in the third, as the Lookouts took the lead with a three-run effort. With one out already recorded, Justin Sellers used his legs to beat out a bunt for a single. After an Eduardo Perez hit by pitch, Andrew Lambo blasted a double right down the right field wall to plate Sellers.

Russ Mitchell then walked to load the bases. James Tomlin followed with a single right up the middle to drive home Perez and Lambo.

In the sixth inning, the M-Braves inched closer on an RBI single from Jones, putting the score at 4-3.

The Lookouts reverted back to a two-run cushion in the seventh. After the bases were loaded by three walks, pinch hitter Josh Bell hit a sacrifice fly to score Perez from third.

The M-Braves added another run in the ninth, but Lookouts relief pitcher Victor Garate was able to shut the door on the 5-4 win to earn his third save of the season.

Kendy Batista (3-0) earned the win for the Lookouts by throwing 5.2 innings of three-run ball. He yielded five hits and three walks, while striking out two.

Edgar Osuna dropped to 2-2 on the season for the M-Braves. In five innings of work, he surrendered four runs on nine hits and one walk. He struck out three in the losing effort.

Chattanooga will hit the road to play a six-game series against the Huntsville Stars., tomorrow. The Lookouts will return back to AT&T Field to play a six-game series against the Carolina Mudcats on Sunday, June 28th.
