JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - On a Father's Day matinee at the Baseball Grounds, the BayBears wrapped up the first half by suffering their fourth consecutive defeat as they were trumped by the Jacksonville Suns 8-3.

Jacksonville (35-35) came out swinging against knuckleballer Houston Summers (0-1) who made his Double-A debut. Summers surrendered a lead-off double to Scott Cousins in the second which turned into the game's first tally as Cousins stole third and scored on a sac fly by Kevin Randel.

Summers coughed up a couple more in the third as Mike Stanton blasted a two-run shot for his first Double-A dinger, but the BayBears (37-33) mounted a comeback in the fourth. With two away, Chris Rahl went opposite field for his fourth homer against Suns starter Cristhian Martinez (5-2). A few batters later, Ricardo Sosa looped a ball down the right field to drive in Sean Coughlin, cutting the Jacksonville advantage to one.

In the fourth, the Suns began to pull away as Brad Davis singled with one out and scored on a two-out knock by Bryan Petersen. With the BayBears' offense quiet the rest of the afternoon, Jacksonville continued to pad their lead. A one-out tater in the sixth by Davis off Mobile native Chase Christianson put the Suns in front by three.

It became a 6-2 lead for the home team when Cousins tripled home Logan Morrison in the seventh. Daniel Stange relieved Christianson in the eighth and let up four singles, two of which plated extra insurance for the Suns. The BayBears loaded the bases in both the eighth and ninth innings but only came away with one run on an RBI groundout by Pedro Ciriaco.

Evan Frey and Mark Hallberg each had a pair of hits in the contest, both extending their hitting streaks to six games.

The BayBears kick off the second half on Monday night at Hank Aaron Stadium where 51 America's Junior Miss contestants will simultaneously throw out a ceremonial first pitch prior to the BayBears battling the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx at 7:05 with Matt Torra (5-6, 3.63) getting the start.
