Suns Finish First Half with Win over BayBears

Jacksonville, Fla. - Mike Stanton belted his first Double-A homerun while Brad20Davis smashed a homerun with two other hits leading the Jacksonville Suns (35-35) to their fourth straight win, an 8-3 victory over the Mobile BayBears (37-33) in front of 3,120 Sunday afternoon at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.

Suns starter Cristhian Martinez (5-2) picked up the win in his return to Jacksonville from the Florida Marlins, dealing five innings with two runs and five hits over five innings. Mobile starter Houston Summers (0-1) fell in the loss, giving up four runs and five hits over five innings.

Jacksonville opened the scoring in the second inning as Kevin Randel drove in the first run on a sacrifice fly for a 1-0 score. In the third inning Mike Stanton belted his first Double-A homerun, a two-run blast to left-centerfield, opening a 3-0 lead.

Mobile got on the board with two out in the fourth inning as Chris Rahl hit an opposite field, solo homerun to cut the Suns lead to 3-1. Later in the inning Ricardo Sosa singled home Sean Coughlin for a 3-2 score.

The Suns extended the lead again in the fourth inning when Bryan Peterson singled in Brad Davis with two out for a 4-2 score. Davis opened the lead even more in the sixth inning, belting a one-out, solo homerun for a 5-2 lead. In the seventh inning Scott Cousins tripled with two out to drive home Logan Morrison for a 6-2 advantage.

Jacksonville added their two final runs in the eighth inning on a sacrifice fly from Bryan Petersen and Logan Morrison single, opening an 8-2 lead. Mobile scored in the ninth inning on a Pedro Ciriaco groundout for an 8-3 final.
