Lookouts Explode for 14 Runs

June 17, 2023 - Southern League (SL)
Chattanooga Lookouts News Release

James Free's seven RBI night led the Lookouts to a 14-0 win over the Rocket City Trash Pandas. With the win Chattanooga is back to a half-game lead over the Tenessee Smokies for the North Divison lead with seven games to go.

Free's night began with an exclamation when after a bases-loaded walk, belted a grand slam to give the Lookouts the 5-0 first-inning lead. Free almost repeated this feat an inning later when he cleared the bases once again, this time on a double down the right-field line. Free then scored on an Ivan Johnson double.

Chattanooga continued to pour it on in the third when Rece Hinds smacked a two-run home run to center field. Hinds has now hit a home run in six straight games, tied for the longest streak in Minor League Baseball this season.

Up 12-0, the Lookouts pitching staff stymied Rocket City. Starting pitcher Lyon Richardson lowered his season ERA to 2.10 with four shutout innings and six strikeouts. Kyle Glogoski, Spencer Stockton, and Tommy Eveld combined to shut out the Trash Pandas the rest of the way.

The Lookouts delivered a final blow in the eighth on a ground out by Ivan Johnson and a Francisco Urbaez RBI single.

The first-place Lookouts aim to end their final series of the first half with another win with Connor Phillips on the mound. Phillips aims to add to his Minor League-leading strikeout total of 101. Game time is 2:15 p.m. with gates opening at 1:00 p.m.
