Lookouts 2012 Opening Day Roster Announced

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The Los Angeles Dodgers have announced the 2012 Opening Day roster for the Chattanooga Lookouts. The team consists of 14 position players and 13 pitchers, with C Angelo Ponte and OF Anthony Jackson beginning the season on the disabled list. The Southern League has expanded the active roster limited to 25 this season from 24 in previous seasons. Listed below are a series of facts concerning the 2012 Opening Day roster.

Â- RHP Chris Withrow is on the Dodgers 40-man roster

Â- 16 players have previously donned a Lookouts uniform

Â- RHP Chris Withrow (2007), RHP Ethan Martin (2008), and LHP Aaron Miller (2009) were each the Dodgers' top draft pick in the respective years in which they were drafted.

Â- RHP Allen Webster (#2), RHP Chris Withrow (#7), RHP Shawn Tolleson (#15), LHP Aaron Miller (#16), RHP Ethan Martin (#17), OF Kyle Russell (#20), SS Jake Lemmerman (#27), C Griff Erickson (#28), and OF Blake Smith (#30) all crack Baseball America's Top 30 Prospects list for the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Â- For Baseball America's "Best Tools" section, OF Kyle Russell is listed superlatively for being the best power hitter prospect in the Dodgers organization. Also, C Griff Erickson is tabbed as the prospect with the best strike-zone discipline, while 3B Pedro Baez is listed as the best infield arm and defensive infielder. OF Blake Smith is listed as the best outfield arm, and RHP Allen Webster is the lone pitcher listed, with being selected as the pitcher with the best changeup.

Â- 10 players on the team enter the season at least 25-years-old, while last year's team had 15.

Â- OF Anthony Jackson (6/17/84) is the senior statesman of the team at 27-years-old, while RHP Javier Solano (3/31/90) is the youngest player on the team at 22.

Â- Eight players on the roster list their residence in the state of California. Of the 14 positional players, seven of which reside in California.

Â- RHP Blake Johnson was originally drafted by the Dodgers in the second round of the 2004 draft, but was traded to the Royals with two other players in 2006 for RHP Elmer Dessens.

Â- INF Travis Denker (2008, San Francisco) is the lone player on the roster with Major League experience.

Â- Three players on the roster hits 20 or more homers last season: INF Travis Denker (25), OF Kyle Russell (20), and OF Blake Smith (20).
