KODAK, Tenn. - Tonight's Tennessee Smokies exhibition game against Walters State Community College tied 0-0 in the bottom of the first inning, when heavy rain forced the game to be called. The two teams will not make up the game.
Smokies starter Dae-Eun Rhee had to wiggle himself out of a jam in the top of the first as he gave up a single and then walked a batter. 3B Matt Cerda helped Rhee out with a nice backhand play that ended the inning.
Walters State lefty England Smith faired just as well as Rhee. Smith gave up a leadoff single to LF Jim Adduci, however the Smokies weren't able to make it pay off as the sky opened up on Smokies Park forcing the game to be called after just an inning and one-third.
Fans that purchased tickets to tonight's game can exchange those tickets for any regular season home game for the 2012 season.
Tennessee kicks off their 2012 regular season on the road as they face the Chattanooga Lookouts starting Thursday, April 5. Opening Night at Smokies Park is scheduled for next Tuesday, April 10 at 7:15 p.m. For tickets and information fans can visit www.smokiesbaseball.com or call 865-286-2300.
