Long Island Ducks News Release

Central Islip, N.Y., September 1, 2009)- The Long Island Ducks defeated the Somerset Patriots 10-2 on Tuesday night before a past-capacity crowd of 6,325 at Citibank Park.

Somerset grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first as Jeff Nettles launched a 3-2 pitch from Ducks' starter Randy Leek over the left wall. The Ducks quickly tied it in the last of the first as Jose Herrera doubled home Ray Navarrete to even the score at one.

Long Island opened the game up with a eight-spot in the last of the third inning off Pats' starter Josh Miller. Eight runs on eight hits including two hits in the frame from Alex Prieto and Juan Francia led the way. Navarrete chipped in with a two-run double and George Lombard crushed a three-run dinger over the left-center field wall.

Lombard's second dinger of the night in the fourth pushed the Ducks' lead to 10-1. That was all Leek (9-9) would need as the lefty went eight innings, surrendering eight hits and two runs, while striking out three.

Miller (8-4) was hit with the loss as he yielded seven earned runs and 13 hits over six innings.

Lombard finished the day going 3-for-4 with two homers, four RBI and a walk.
