Long Island Battles Back in Second Half But Falls to Wisconsin

LONG ISLAND - The Long Island Nets (6-14), the NBA G League affiliate of the Brooklyn Nets, battled until the end but fell to the Wisconsin Herd (17-4) 140-128 tonight at NYCB LIVE, home of the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

Long Island guard/forward Ash Yacoubou had a strong game for the Nets, finishing the contest with a career-high 22 points on 7-of-15 shooting from the field and 6-of-12 shooting from 3-point range to go along with a career-high 13 rebounds and three steals in 34 minutes of action for his second double-double of the season. Long Island guard/forward C.J. Williams also had a strong performance, finishing the game with 22 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the field and 6-of-12 shooting from 3-point range with six rebounds and two assists in 28 minutes of play.

Wisconsin guard Frank Mason led the way for the Herd with a game high 28 points on 8-of-15 shooting from the field, 5-of-7 shooting from 3-point range and 6-of-10 shooting from the charity stripe to go along with three rebounds, five assists and two steals in 33 minutes of play. Milwaukee Bucks forward/center, Dragan Bender, while on assignment with Wisconsin, also had a strong game for the Herd, finishing with 25 points on 7-of-16 shooting from the field, 5-of-8 shooting from 3-point range and 4-of-5 shooting from the charity stripe to go with 10 rebounds, two assists and four blocks in 30 minutes of play.

Wisconsin got off to a strong start to open the game, outscoring the Nets 22-13 over the first 6:22 of the quarter. Long Island would respond over the remainder of the quarter, entering the second down 33-29.

Wisconsin came out hot in the second quarter, taking a 16-point lead over the Nets with 5:32 left to play in the half. The Herd would continue their dominance, outscoring the Nets 39-22 in the second quarter, taking a 72-51 lead into the half.

Long Island came out looking to battle its way back into the game in the second half, narrowing the lead to 11 points with 5:26 left to play. Wisconsin was able to regroup and maintain their lead, heading into the final quarter of play up 106-93.

Long Island continued to stay alive in the game, cutting the lead to nine points with 4:10 left to play. Wisconsin, however, was able to close out the game in the end, sealing the victory by the final score of 140-128.

The Nets will travel to Grand Rapids for their next game to take on the Drive on Wednesday, Jan. 8, at 7 p.m. ET, while the Herd will travel to Fort Wayne to take on the Mad Ants next on Tuesday, Jan. 7, at 7 p.m. ET.
