Lancaster Stormers News Release

Once again, the Lancaster Barnstormers were unable to bridge the bottom of the fifth.

After surrendering nine fifth inning runs on Sunday afternoon at Long Island, the 'Stormers allowed six runs to Lexington in the bottom of the fifth on Tuesday evening, dropping the series opener, 13-8, at Lexington Legends Ballpark.

The Barnstormers carried a 6-3 lead into that fifth inning, but Lexington loaded the bases against Augie Sylk for the third straight inning. Donald Goodson (1-2) replaced Sylk and picked up the second out as Tillman Pugh lined to right. This time, the Barnstormers could not fully escape the jam, as D.J. Peterson doubled to left, scoring two. A wild pitch tied the game before Courtney Hawkins singled to left for a 7-6 lead. Keon Barnum followed with a towering two-run homer to cap the surge.

Three more runs crossed the plate for the Legends in the bottom of the sixth.

For the second straight game, the Barnstormers attempted a rally in the ninth. An error on a potential double play grounder kept the inning alive with Nick Shumpert eventually doubling in two.

Caleb Gindl homered to open the game for the Barnstormers, but it was the fourth inning where Lancaster surged into the lead. A walk, double, fielding error and sacrifice fly put the tying runs on the board. The inning restarted with two outs when Cleuluis Rondon doubled to left. Gindl, Melvin Mercedes, and Blake Gailen rapped out consecutive RBI singles for the 6-3 lead.

Andro Cutura (3-1) will make the start for the Barnstormers on Wednesday at 12:35. Fans may tune into the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, starting at 12:30.
