
Long Ball Propels Tobs to Victory

EDENTON, N.C. - Jackson Slaid belted the third home run of the night for the Wilson Tobs, a two-out three-run shot to dead centerfield in the top of the eighth inning to lift the Tobs to an 8-5 victory over the Edenton Steamers at Historic Hicks Field on Saturday night.
Wilson (8-15) entered the eighth inning tied at five and got a pair of runners on with two outs against Travis Huber (L 0-1) before Slaid launched the long ball over the wall to give the Tobs the lead they would not relinquish.
Edenton (15-6) led the game by three runs at 5-2 after four innings thanks to a two-run home run from Michael Camporeale and a double off the bat of Spencer Branigan. However, the Steamers could not hold the lead as the Tobs came storming back to take a three-run lead the would not lose.
The Steamers brought the tying run to the plate in the eighth inning against Kevin Berry (W 1-0) but could not score as Michael Massi bounced out to Zach Houchins at short to end the frame and keep the Tobs in front.
Edenton could not score in its half of the ninth as the Tobs earned their second consecutive road victory of the season and their first win at Historic Hicks Field since July 15, 2010 a span of 709 days.
The Tobs contiune their road trip on Sunday afternoon when they travel to McNair Field to take on the Forest City Owls, first pitch is set for 5:30.
