SwampDogs earn 3-2 victory

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Fayetteville SwampDogs improved to 14-8 on the season with a thrilling 3-2 victory over the Columbia Blowfish on Saturday night. A packed house witnessed the ninth victory at home this year for the Dogs, as Fayetteville took the first meeting between the two clubs on the season.

Andrew Parker (Towson) got the Dogs on the board with a two-run blast in the second inning, his first home run on the year.

The SwampDogs added a run in the fourth inning, when Reed Harper (Austin Peay) led off the frame with his first triple of the season before scoring on Blake Beemer's (Ball State) RBI single.

The Blowfish managed to score a run in the fifth and seventh innings, respectively, but the Dogs held on for the one-run victory.

Layne Somsen (South Dakota State) picked up his second win of the season after striking out six hitters in five innings of work.

The next SwampDogs home game is on Monday, June 25th, when Team USA visits "The Swamp." Limited tickets remain to see the premiere college talent in the country take on the Dogs, presented by Family Foods and Taco Bell.

Celebrating its 16th season in 2012, the CPL features 14 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts. Furthermore, the CPL has had over 1,000 alumni drafted and 51 alums - including 2011 AL MVP and Cy Young winner Justin Verlander - make their Major League debut thus far.
