Forest City Owls News Release
Asheboro, NC- For the fourth time in as many meetings, a game between the Forest City Owls and Asheboro Copperheads came down to the wire. This time though, extra innings weren't necessary and the Owls held off the Copperheads 3-2 on Saturday night in Asheboro. Gunnar Heidt scored two runs and Nick Lomascolo spun seven shutout innings to earn his second win of the year.
The third-year Owl was able to out-duel his counterpart, Nate Smith, who lasted just six innings and gave up all three Forest City runs. Lomascolo started the 8th inning as well, but left after surrendering a double and a walk to the first two batters in the 8th. Jason Driver replaced him and got a ground ball fielder's choice, and a double-play grounder to escape the jam. Jake Padgett pitched the 9th to get his third save. With runners on first and third and one out, Padgett threw a wild pitch, but Ryan Welke gunned out the runner from third at home who would've have been the tying run.
Heidt led off the game with a bloop single, and stole second and third base before scoring on a two-out single by Justin Bryan. Heidt came around to score again in the third inning when Bryan Aanderud reached on a two-out error. The Owls third run came in when Heidt singled to center field with two outs, plating Will Chandler.
