Springdale, AR- A ninth inning rally by the Northwest Arkansas Naturals Tuesday night fell one bunt short, and the Naturals dropped the rubber game of their series with the Corpus Christi Hooks by a final score of 3-2 before a crowd of 3,653.
Designated hitter Richard Paz got the Hooks on the board in the first inning with an RBI single which scored Tommy Manzella. That capped off the scoring from both sides until Jose Duarte led off the 6th inning with a bomb to right field to knot the game up at one.
The Hooks (9-3) broke out in the eighth, however when Lou Santangelo hit a two-run shot to deep center field to give the Hooks a 3-1 lead.
The Naturals' rallied late in the bottom of the ninth when Brian McFall singled in a run to bring the Naturals within a run. The Naturals' failed to score as they stranded two base runners to end the game. Marc Maddox was unable to get a bunt down with runners on first and second and one out, and then Irving Falu grounded out to end the game.
Naturals' starter Julio Pimentel had his best start of the season, tossing a team-high 6 2/3 innings while allowing just four hits and a run. He struck out a season-high six batters and only walked one. Dusty Hughes (1-2) came on in relief and picked up the loss for the Naturals.
For the Hooks, Brian Bogusevic lasted going six innings, allowing one run on three hits, while striking out two and issuing three walks. Reliever Ryan McKeller (2-0) picked up his second victory of the season, fanning two and walking one in his inning of relief.
The Naturals will now head on the road to face their in-state rival the Arkansas Travelers for a four-game weekend series. The Naturals will return home on Monday, April 21st to begin an eight game home stand with the Springfield Cardinals and Arkansas Travelers.
