Naturals Partner With 40/29 To Help River Valley Tornado Victims

The Northwest Arkansas Naturals, along with 40/29 News and the American Red Cross chapter of Northwest Arkansas are teaming up to assist Arkansans in Fort Smith and the River Valley after tornadoes, floods and hail ripped through the area last week. Monday April 21, when the Naturals meet the Springfield Cardinals for the first time this season, Red Cross officials will be on hand outside the stadium's front gates collecting monetary and nonperishable food donations which will go directly to those in the River Valley affected by last week's severe weather. The 7 P.M. game includes fireworks and the opportunity for fans to play The Morning News' "Baseball Bingo," with the chance to win prizes from the Naturals and The Morning News. The Naturals Community Relations department will also donate a block of tickets to community-based organizations in Fort Smith, providing families in the River Valley a night of fun entertainment and a diversion from their recent struggles. "The River Valley is important to the Naturals," said Naturals General Manager Eric Edelstein. "Together with the Red Cross and 40/29 News we're aiming to lend a hand to the area in their time of need." The American Red Cross, a humanitarian organization led by volunteers and guided by its Congressional Charter and the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross Movement, will provide relief to victims of disasters and help people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies. Since January, the Northwest Arkansas Chapter has responded to 4 major disasters in Northwest Arkansas and the River Valley. These include the tornadoes of January and February, wind-induced power outage in Russellville, and the recent storms and flooding in the Fort Smith area as well as North Central Arkansas. The Red Cross provided those affected with shelters, food, water, basic necessities and financial aid when possible. All disaster relief is free, brought to you by countless volunteers and the generosity of the American people. 40/29 News is the Hearst-Argyle owned ABC affiliate for Northwest Arkansas and the River Valley.
