
Lomurno Promoted to Assistant GM

WICHITA, KS- Director of Public Relations Joel T. Lomurno was named Assistant General Manager, Wichita Thunder owner Horn Chen announced today.
Lomurno, in his 10th season with the organization, will serve as direct liaison to Express Sports in running the day-to-day operations of the Thunder. Express Sports, a division of Express Personnel Services, was named managing partner of the Thunder on November 4th. Express Sports owns the CHL's Oklahoma City Blazers.
"Joel has been recognized by his peers as one of the brightest and most dedicated employees in all of minor league hockey", said Express Sports CEO Brad Lund. "This announcement is well overdue."
A graduate of La Salle University in Philadelphia, PA, Lomurno joined the Thunder in 1993 as an intern. He took over the public relations duties in 1996 and has also served as play-by-play announcer for the last four seasons. Former Tulsa Oilers announcer Jim Byers will assume the role of play-by-play announcer for the Thunder for the remainder of the season, while Lomurno will serve as the color commentator for select Thunder broadcasts.
Lomurno will be responsible for supervising and assisting all departments of the Thunder front office, including group sales, hockey operations, community and public relations. He will also be responsible for hiring additional staff, organizing and servicing Wichita's corporate database and improving customer relations.
The Thunder, winners of two of their last three games, return to the ice tonight versus Oklahoma City. The first 1500 fans in attendance will receive Thunder Stix, courtesy of the Wichita Eagle and the Kansas Coliseum. Face-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
Team captain Jeff Leiter, who missed the last 10 games, was activated from injured reserve and will return to the Thunder lineup tonight. The Thunder also signed rookie center Jason Greenway. To make room for the pair, the Thunder placed center Todd Johnson on 14-day IR and waived center Corey Lucas.
