La Crosse Loggers News Release
LA CROSSE, WI - Make it three straight for the La Crosse Loggers (8-7). In front of 2,329 Copeland Crazies, the Lumbermen routed the Eau Claire Express (7-9) by a final score of 16-1.
La Crosse got things going right from the get-go. After lead-off hitter Eric Toole (Iowa) reached on a five pitch walk, Grand Valley State products Mike Nadratowski and Kevin Zak each singled. Zak's scored Toole, while Nadratowski came around on first baseman Michael Katz's RBI single.
It did not take long for Eau Claire to respond. Chane Lynch (Dallas Baptist) singled on starter Zack Reser's second pitch of the inning. After a Tim Wise (Cal Poly) single, Lynch came around to score on Greg Harisis' (Santa Clara) single to right.
The Loggers were back at it in the bottom of the second. Following a lead-off single by Connor Teykl (Rice), catcher Steve Moen walked and Toole sent a two-strike fastball into the left-center gap for an RBI double. Two batters later one of the Loggers four all stars, Zak, sent a Peter Hendron fastball directly over the center field fence for a three-run bomb.
Nick Day (Iowa) followed suit in the bottom of the third. The sophomore hit his first home run of the season and La Crosse's second of the game, this time a solo shot off of Hendron.
After a quiet fourth inning, the Lumbermen got back after it in the bottom of the fifth. Zak and Katz both reached on walks to begin the frame. After a Nick Day RBI single, Teykl singled to load the bases for Troy Traxler (Minnesota). The La Crescent native came through with a double off of the left field wall, scoring both Katz and Day.
Reser pitched into the seventh inning for the Loggers. The redshirt sophomore scattered eight hits and two walks in his second win of the summer.
Brooks Kriske and James Guillen, both USC products, came on in relief of Reser. The pair combined to throw two scoreless innings with five strikeouts.
Jason Nell called upon Nick Piscotty (Duke) in the top of the ninth. The righty walked two and struck out one.
Five Loggers finished the game with multiple hits: Toole, Zak, Katz, Day & Teykl. Toole drove in five runs from the lead-off position. Teykl finished the game with four hits in five at-bats and three runs scored. Zak, Katz and Day all hit a big fly in the win.
The Loggers and Express will be back in action tomorrow evening at Copeland Park. First pitch is slated for 7:05 with the gates opening at 6:00. Tune into the Loggers Radio Network where Micah Schroeder and Nick Rytilahti will bring you all of the action.
