Mallards Hope to Avoid First Three-Game Skid of Season

Madison, WI - The Madison Mallards (10-6, 31-18) would suffer their first three-game losing streak of the season with a loss tonight against the Green Bay Bullfrogs (5-9, 21-28). First pith is scheduled for 7:05 pm.

The Mallards lost on consecutive days for the first time since June 6th and 7th yesterday in a 4-2 loss at the hands of the Green Bay Bullfrogs. Bullfrogs starter Derek Callahan (Gonzaga) almost got through the eighth inning and allowed just two runs on five hits while earning the win. The Mallards had only one runner reach third prior to the eighth.

The Mallards did, however, threaten in the ninth by loading the bases off of Bullfrogs closer Brian Trieglaff (TCU) with the score at 4-2. John LaPrise (Virginia), who extended his hitting streak to 13 games earlier in the game, lined out to short to end the game.

Mike Reuvekamp (California) and LaPrise knocked in the two Mallards runs last night on RBI groundouts.

On the mound tonight for the Mallards is Taylore Cherry (North Carolina). The 6'9," 260-pound freshman recorded his first win of the season in his third start last Friday when he went 5 innings and allowed one run (earned) on five hits. He struggled with his command a bit and walked four but also struck out four Chinooks. On the season, Cherry is 1-0 with a 3.29 ERA in 13.2 innings.

The Bullfrogs will also send a freshman to the mound tonight in Garrett Harrison (St. Cloud State). The 6'5," 195-pounder is 2-2 with a 4.74 ERA through 10 appearances (four starts) this season. He went seven innings and allowed just one run in his first two starts and has allowed only two earned runs in each of his past two starts.

Tied at the Top

Mallards All-Star closer Hunter May (UNC-Charlotte) now finds himself in a three-way tie for the Northwoods League lead in saves. His mark of 10 is tied with Mankato's Jess Amedee (Texas-Arlington) and Wisconsin Rapids' JP Feyereisen (UW-Stevens Point).

Elite Company

LaPrise's 13-game hitting streak is currently the second longest in the Northwoods League and has been the fifth longest of the season. Battle Creek's Cam Gibson (25) currently has the longest, while Rochester's Carter Burgess (23), La Crosse's Kevin Zak (19) and Alexandria's Tim Cusick (15) had longer streaks earlier this season.

Up Next:

The Mallards start a three-game road trip starting tomorrow before the All-Star break beginning on July 22nd. They will travel to Green Bay tomorrow for a 7:05 pm game and will then travel to Wausau, Wisconsin to take on the Woodchucks on Saturday and Sunday. First pitch on Saturday is set for 6:35 pm while Sunday's game is scheduled for 5:05 pm.

The "Duck Pond" is also hosting the Zimbrick Honda Home Talent All-Star game on Friday starting at 7:05 pm.

The Mallards will return home on Thursday, July 25th at 7:05 pm to take on the Battle Creek Bombers. The ZOOperstars will be providing in-game entertainment. Christmas in July will feature Waylan St. and the Magic Elves and a Santa Maynard Bobblehead Giveaway.
