Lakeland Loggerheads News Release

LAKELAND, Fla. – Two very tired teams met in a game that lacked the usual fire and intensity of a typical WHA2 contest.

After traveling 14 hours by bus back from Alabama and arriving home around 8:00am this morning, the Loggerheads were unable to mount much of an offensive attack.

The teams played the first period even and went to the locker rooms 0-0. Macon put the first goal on the board midway through the second period when Andrew Katzberg lit the lamp even strength with an assist from Bobby Clouston.

Jeff Antonovich netted Macon's second goal less than three minutes later with helpers going to Luke Murphy and Steve Howard.

Lakeland finally made their presence known late in the third period when the dynamic duo of Jim Callahan and Jeremy Vokes teamed up on a shorthanded tally with just over six minutes remaining to pull within a goal.

However that's as close as it would get as the Trax added an empty netter with just 24 seconds remaining to seal the 3-1 victory.

The dreaded Orlando Seals return to the Lakeland Center on Friday, January 9th. It will be Public Employee Night as all of Polk County's Public Employees are invited to catch all the fast-paxced, hard-hitting action of Pro Hockey with Bite at the specially discounted rate of $2 off the regular ticket prices. Call the Lakeland Loggerheads Ticket Office at 863-834-7814 for more information or to purchase tickets

The Loggerheads face off with the Alabama Slammers, Jacksonville Barracudas, Orlando Seals, Miami Manatees and the Macon Trax in the WHA2's inaugural season. All games will be broadcast on www.irn.fm.
