Jacksonville Barracudas News Release
MIAMI, Fla. - The Barracudas finally broke the Miami home ice jinx beating the Manatees 5-3.
Jamie Miller scored three goals and added an assist while lineate Derek Toninato added a goal and an assist. Rookie goaltender Randy Hevey played another strong game making 36 saves to lead the Barracudas to their first victory in Miami. It was also Miami's first loss of the season on home ice.
Prior to the game, Head Coach Ron Duguay announced the signing of goaltender Robb Stuaber. Stauber will replace Brandon Snee who was placed on the 7-day Injured Reserve.
Stauber, a Duluth, Minnesota native, won the Hobie Baker Award for Best College Player in 1987-88. He was drafted the Los Angeles Kings in the sixth round (#107 overall) in the 1986 NHL Entry Draft. Stauber played 62 games in the NHL for Los Angeles and Buffalo. He was a member of the Los Angeles Kings Stanley Cup Finals team in the 1992-93 season.
"Robb is a quality goaltender that can still play at a high level. He's a stand-up goalie who plays his angles well and will make the big saves when we need it," Duguay said.
As well as playing in goal for the Barracudas, Stauber will also work with the young goaltenders on the roster. He currently teaches goalie instruction back in Minnesota and was an Assistant Coach at the University of Minnesota from 1999-2002.
"He'll be a good example to our young players on how to play the position," Duguay added.
The Barracudas return home on Tuesday night as they look to derail the Macon Trax. Face-off time is 7:05. The Cudas then hit the road with games in Macon on Friday night and Orlando on Saturday night before hosting Miami next Sunday, January 11th.
Jacksonville will host the Inaugural WHA2 All-Star Game on Tuesday, January 27th at the Veteran's Memorial Arena. It will be the Barracudas hosting the best of the WHA2. Face-off time is 7:05. Tickets available starting Monday, January 5th at Ticketmaster, the Arena Box Office, charge by phone at 904-353-3309, or order online at Ticketmaster.com.
