Lakeland Loggerheads News Release
LAKELAND, Fla. â On the strength of their highest goal total of the year, the Lakeland Loggerheads cruised past the Miami Manatees by the score of 10-7.
Chris Cerrella capped off a six-point night with 3 goals and three assists and Joe Seroski finished the night with five points on 2 goals and three helpers.
Team captain Rob Schweyer battled through injury all night and somehow willed himself a goal and three assists.
Miami's Kevin Swider kept the Manatees in the game by notching a hat trick of his own and added an assist for a four-point night.
With the score 10-5 and less than five minutes remaining in the third period, Lakeland coach Tony Zappia decided to give goaltender Carl Poissant a well deserved rest. Taking his place between the pipes was Lakeland native Conrad Campbell. Campbell attended Kathleen High School and graduated from Lakeland High School in 1997.
"I love that I have been given the opportunity to play with this team," said Campbell. "Its like doing what you have wanted since I was a kid, to play for a team in the town where you grew up."
Campbell allowed 2 goals on three shots but will remember his first game as one of the greatest experiences of his life.
Lakeland hosts the Alabama Slammers in their next game on Friday night at 7:05pm at the Lakeland Center.
The Loggerheads face off with the Alabama Slammers, Jacksonville Barracudas, Orlando Seals, Miami Manatees and the Macon Trax in the WHA2's inaugural season. All games will be broadcast on www.irn.fm.
