Gateway Grizzlies News Release
SAUGET, IL - Right handed pitcher Trevor Richards (Aviston, IL) will be the starting pitcher for the Miami Marlins against the Washington Nationals today in big league spring training. Sherzer is also a local legend having pitched for the Tigers at Mizzou. First pitch is set for 12:05 Central.
Richards pitched for the Gateway Grizzlies in 2015 and signed with the Miami Marlins club in 2016. Over the last two years Richards climbed his way through A and AA with the Miami club. In 2017 he posted a 12-11 record in 146 innings with a 2.53 ERA across A+ and AA.
"I am extremely excited for Trevor and the opportunity he has today. This is a testament to all the work he has put in," says Grizzlies manager Phil Warren. "We are proud of him and know he will embrace the opportunity and compete. Hopefully this is the next feather in his cap and he will continue to move up the ladder."
"My staff and I are happy and proud to be part of the influence that got him to this point. It's really cool for all of us who had a hand in coaching him and see our work as coaches pay off," says Warren.
The Grizzlies will celebrate the right-hander with a Trevor Richards bobblehead giveaway on Friday, July 20. That night the Grizzlies take on their cross-town rival River City Rascals at GCS Credit Union Ballpark in Sauget, IL.
While with the Grizzlies in 2015, Richards had a 6-6 season with an ERA of 3.36 in 91 innings pitched. Prior to his time with the Grizzlies, Richards pitched for D2 Drury University in Springfield, MO.
