(Vancouver) The BC Lions Football Club announced today that safety Barron Miles has signed a contract extension with the club through the 2010 season.

"Barron has been a leader in the truest sense of the word for our club and I am very pleased to announce this extension today," said Lions GM and head coach Wally Buono.

Starting all 18 games at safety for the Lions in 2008, Barron enjoyed another all-star campaign leading the CFL with his second-highest career total of nine interceptions. Consistent and opportunistic, Miles notched two picks in two separate games and had two stretches of four games where he intercepted four opposition passes.

Miles also blocked the 12th kick of his career on July 25/08 vs Montreal (a Damon Duval convert attempt). His 46 tackles were his highest total since 2002 and he ran his career playoff game appearances to 11 with starts in the West Semi-Final and Final.

"I am excited about the 2009 season and the team we are going put on the field," said Miles. "I'm ready to do whatever it takes to get us back to a Grey Cup game and bring home a championship for our fans."

A starter at safety for the Lions for the last four seasons, Miles has logged a total of 172 career CFL games. He has more career interceptions (58) and blocked kicks (12) than any other Lions player. His 28 interceptions for the Lions put him in 4th spot all-time.
