VANCOUVER, B.C., March 1, 2005 â BC Lions General Manager and Head Coach, Wally Buono, today announced the signing of defensive back seven-year CFL veteran Barron Miles.
"Barron brings our defence the capabilities of the big play and experience," said Buono. "We look forward to having Barron on our football club."
Miles, a 5'9", 176-pound defensive back, recorded 33 tackles, one quarterback sack, and one pass knock down during the 2004 regular season for the league leading Montreal Alouettes.
In 2003, for the fourth time in his career, Miles was named to both the Eastern Division All-Star team and was selected to the CFLPA All-Star team after tallying 41 tackles and two forced fumbles for the Alouettes.
Miles led Montreal with seven interceptions during the 2002 regular season after missing the regular season with a dislocated shoulder. In 2002, Miles was named as the East Division Most Outstanding Defensive Player and was selected to the CFL All-Star team for the third time in his career. After his first season in the CFL in 1998, Miles was honoured with the distinction of East Division Rookie of the Year.
Miles was drafted in 1995 199th overall by the Pittsburgh Steelers but sat out the season after knee surgery. In 1996 he attended the Steelers training camp and in 1997 he signed with the Steelers February 5 and was later assigned to the Frankfurt Galaxy of NFL Europe. In Europe he suffered an ankle injury.
Prior to joining the Alouettes, Miles attended Nebraska where he was a two-year starter at cornerback, blocking five punts and two field goals during his collegiate career.
Miles, a native of Roselle, New Jersey, was born on January 1, 1972. Barron and his wife, Jennifer Bazata, are proud parents of three children. During his tenure with Montreal, Barron was actively involved in the community, creating the Reaching Out to Children â Alouettes School is Cool Basketball Program in 2004, which visited 33 Quebec schools during the off-season.
