Lions make final additions to D; agree to terms with Lumbala

(Vancouver) The BC Lions Football Club announced today that they have signed import defensive linemen Jeremy Gibbs and Charles Tolbert along with import defensive back John Guice.

General manager and head coach Wally Buono also announced that fullback Rolly Lumbala, the Lions' second selection (9th overall) in the 2008 CFL Canadian Draft has agreed to terms on a contract. With these signings, the Lions training camp roster is now finalized.

Gibbs was two-year contributor at Oregon ('06-'07) after a stint at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M. He recorded 13 tackles in 13 appearances as a senior last season and added 5.5 TFL and 4.5 sacks. In his first season in 2006, Jeremy was the team's fourth leading defender among linemen and had four tackles in his in Division I debut vs. Stanford as well as a sack and a blocked field goal.

Tolbert was mainstay on the Fresno State defensive line for the past four years ('03-'06) and appeared in 43 games starting 17 of them - 12 as a senior in 2006. He finished his final season with 29 tackles, five sacks and three forced fumbles. In May 2007, he signed as an undrafted free agent with the Jacksonville Jaguars and was later released.

Guice appeared in 11 games as a senior for the UNLV Rebels in 2006 making 42 tackles. He transferred to UNLV in 2005 after spending two seasons at Grossmont College (El Cajon, CA). Despite suffering a shoulder injury in 2005, Guice managed to record 55 tackles and broke up four passes in nine games for the Rebels, eight of them starts.

Lumbala enjoyed a productive career at Idaho, appearing in every regular season game for the Vandals since his freshman season in 2004. Used primarily as a blocking back, the Calgary-native had eight catches for 67 yards in his senior year.

BC Lions Rookie Camp will begin on Thursday May 29th in Abbotsford and run through Saturday, May 31st with the entire squad hitting the field on Sunday, June 1st. Click here for more information on 2008 BC Lions Training Camp.

The Lions travel to Regina to take on the defending Grey Cup champion Saskatchewan Roughriders in preseason action on Friday, June 13th and will host the Calgary Stampeders at BC Place on Thursday, June 19th at 7:00 pm.
