B.C. Lions News Release

(Vancouver) BC Lions Football Club GM and head coach Wally Buono announced this afternoon that Canadian free agent defensive back Mike Edem has signed a two-year contract with the Lions.

"Talented Canadian depth is absolutely critical when you are building your team and Mike is a skilled defender," said Buono. "Like many teams, we were very interested in obtaining him in the CFL Draft back in 2013, so having an opportunity to sign Mike today as a seasoned defensive back is a great pick-up for our club."

Edem was originally selected by the Montreal Alouettes with the third overall pick in the 2013 CFL Draft. He appeared in 35 games during his first two seasons with the Als notching 54 tackles, five sacks and four interceptions. The lofty numbers earned him an East Division All-Star nod in 2013 as well as Montreal's nominee as Outstanding Canadian and Outstanding Rookie. He began the 2015 season with the Alouettes and appeared in four games before being traded to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in October where he played in an additional four games and two playoff tilts.
