Lions Makin' It Rainey, Keep Dynamic Return Man Through 2017

February 9, 2016 - Canadian Football League (CFL)
B.C. Lions News Release

(Vancouver) BC Lions Football Club GM and head coach Wally Buono announced this morning that kick returner Chris Rainey has signed a two-year contract with the Lions keeping him in orange through the 2017 season. Rainey was eligible to become a free agent today.

"Chris brings a skillset to special teams which makes our return game very exciting and dangerous," said Buono. "Field position is critical to winning and with Chris returning kicks it gives our offence a real boost. We will also look at giving him some work at the running back position this season."

Rainey joined the Lions midway through the 2015 season and gave the club an immediate special teams jolt making his Lions debut in Montreal against his former club on September 3rd. Two weeks later in Calgary, the blazing-fast Florida grad returned both a kickoff and a punt for identical 103-yard touchdowns. While seeing limited duty on offence, Chris also added a dazzling 25-yard one-handed catch and juke for a TD versus Hamilton on October 23rd.

Reminder: Lions GM and head coach Wally Buono along with Travis Lulay and Solomon Elimimian will be available today at the Lions Surrey practice facility at 11:00 am.
