VANCOUVER, B.C. March 12, 2003 - BC Lions' Director of Community Relations, Lui Passaglia, and VanCity Credit Union today announced the launch of a new community program for high school students, Lions in the House, at Guilford Park Secondary School in Surrey.

"Lions in the House is about helping educators and students in our community," said Passaglia. "Lions in the House program strives to assist educators in developing the students' social skills and encourage academic and goal-setting success.

Lions in the House engages youth and encourages positive skill development to benefit students and their schools. Students are visited by BC Lions players and become involved in a one-hour interactive assembly developed specifically for high school students by the BC Lions and the educators at each participating school.

"VanCity is proud to support the BC Lions to encourage students to set and achieve their goals," said George Scott, Senior Vice President, Marketing and Strategic Planning.

During the interactive session, BC Lions players discuss positive attitude, continuing education and teamwork with youth in attendance at the assembly. The presentations will be interspersed with energetic activities that include players and teachers competing against students in a relay race, a sit-up and push-up contest, a basketball game and a tug-of-war contest. Each school will also have the opportunity to fundraise in partnership with the BC Lions to promote positive teamwork and competition within the school.

The BC Lions are celebrating their 50th season in the CFL when they kick off the regular season at home on Friday, June 20. For over five decades, the only professional football team in Vancouver has provided exciting, quality entertainment and community partnership for fans in the heart of the city. Season tickets begin at $150.00. Call 604-589-ROAR or log onto bclions.com.
