B.C. Lions News Release
(Vancouver) Saturday's BC Lions tilt doesn't just feature two teams fighting for division titles; it may even turn out to be a Grey Cup preview as the defending CFL-champion Montreal Alouettes come to town this Saturday night to take on the West Division-leading BC Lions.
Winners of nine of their past 10 games, the Lions have stormed out of the division cellar to a 10-7 record and are within a win of having an opportunity to host the Western Final for the first time since 2007. The Alouettes need a win Saturday and a loss by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers earlier in the day in order to claim another regular season East Division crown.
"We've continued to improve in a number of areas but the job isn't done," said Lions GM and head coach Wally Buono. "We have come a long way from where we were as a team in July, but Montreal is an excellent club and Saturday's game will require a monumental effort from our players. These are the games we want to be playing at this time of year. It's fun for the players and exciting for our fans."
The Lions come into Saturday's regular season finale on a winning note after a dramatic 29-20 victory over the Edmonton Eskimos last week. The win was the third consecutive at BC Place for the Lions since returning to the recently renovated stadium in September.
"The atmosphere inside BC Place is very, very special," said Lions quarterback Travis Lulay who is second to Montreal's Anthony Calvillo in passing yards with 4,535. "You can feel our fans literally pushing us to victory and it's really becoming a distinct advantage for us to play at home. The energy they bring to the game is unlike anything I've experienced before as a player."
The Lions have defeated the Als in nine of the past 10 meetings in Vancouver with the only blemish coming last year at Empire Field. The clubs met in Montreal to kickoff the CFL regular season with the Als coming out on top 30-26.
"We fought back in that first game and came up short," added Lulay. "We're a different team now and it's going to be a very good test heading into the playoffs."
Fans can secure tickets for Saturday's by phone (604.589.ROAR) or by visiting bclions.com or ticketmaster.ca and purchasing online.
The next BC Lions home game is Saturday, November 5th at BC Place versus the Montreal Alouettes at 7:00 pm presented by Fortis BC. Fans can catch all the action on the home of BC Lions football, TEAM 1410 beginning with the pre-game show at 5:00 pm.
