Owen Sound Attack News Release
The Owen Sound Attack wishes to congratulate forward Jaden Lindo who was taken with the 23rd pick in the 6th Round (173rd overall) by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2014 National Hockey League Draft.
Lindo, 18 completed his 2nd year with the Attack in 2013/2014, however; his sophomore campaign was cut short due to several injuries, but the burly power forward related he his healthy and focused on a successful 2014/2015 OHL season.
A 2nd Round pick of the Attack in the 2012 OHL Priority Selection, Lindo tallied 9 goals and 9 assists in 40 games last season while battling through several injuries.
"If Jaden was healthy and performing at his capable level all season, he likely would have been a 2nd or 3rd round pick.", stated Attack General Manager Dale DeGray. "But injuries are a part of the game and now that he's healthy, Pittsburgh may have gotten a steal in the 6th Round. Jaden will be a big part of our team moving forward."
Several other Attack hopefuls such as Jack Flinn, Santino Centorame and Damir Sharipzyanov didn't hear their names called, however; according to DeGray, that's not always a bad thing.
"In the past several years alone, we have had several players who were not drafted go on to either sign or be drafted at a later date. The door is wide open for everyone now at this point."
Forwards Kurtis Gabriel and Andrew Shaw went undrafted during their initial draft years before being taken by Minnesota and Chicago respectively. Shaw went on to win a Stanley Cup with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2013. Former Captain Michael Halmo also went undrafted before going on to score 40 goals as an overage player and signing a professional contract with the New York Islanders, making his NHL debut last season.
