Rangers Make Halverson 1st Pick in 2014 Entry Draft

With their 1st pick of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft (59th overall) the New York Rangers selected Greyhounds netminder BRANDON HALVERSON in Round 2, on Saturday morning.

He was the fifth goaltender selected.

The native of Traverse City Michigan is coming off his rookie season with the Hounds.

Originally selected in the 7th Round in the 2012 OHL Priority Selection by the Greyhounds, Halverson appeared in 19 regular season games compiling a win-loss record of 12-6-1-0 to go along with a 2.96 GAA and .904 SV% and two shutouts.

It was just over a week ago, the 6.04, 182-lb netminder was named one of four goalies invited to the U.S. National Junior Evaluation Camp set for this August in Lake Placid, NY.

HALVERSON CAREER HIGHLIGHTS:

Ranked 6th for North American Goaltenders in Central Scouting Final Rankings .. Named Vaughn/CHL Goaltender of the Week, for week ending March 9th .. Picked up wins in his first back-to-back starts on Mar. 7 @ SAR and Mar 9 @ WSR .. Recorded his 2nd career shutout, stopping all 35-shots in a 7-0 win at Sarnia on Friday, March 7, 2014 .. Appeared in his first regular season game at home (7-5 W) on Friday, October 25, 2013 vs Belleville .. Recorded his 1st career OHL victory, and the shutout in his 1st regular season game (Saturday, October 5, 2013 @ Belleville). Made 32 saves and was named the 2nd star .. Rated as the 92nd overall prospect for the 2014 NHL Entry Draft by the Red Line Report, August 2013.... 3rd Michigan Native to play goal for the Program, the last being Jack Campbell...Played the 2012-13 season with the Oakland Jr. Grizzlies U18 of the MWEHL where he appeared in 21 games compiling a 2.88 GAA and .906 SV%.
