Lincoln's Thunderous Offense Downs Storm 8-5

LINCOLN, Neb. - The Lincoln Stars (10-7-2) exploded offensively with seven different goal-scorers against the Tri-City Storm (8-10-3), beating their interstate rival 8-5 on Saturday night at the Ice Box.

Robbie McCollum scored his first career goal in his second USHL game since being acquired by Lincoln on Wednesday, tying up the game at one after Tri-City scored the opening goal 1:31 into the first period.

Shortly before the first period concluded, Christian Sarlo deflected a shot that Travis Treloar let go from the deep slot, giving Lincoln a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes.

In the second period, the Stars blew the game wide open with four goals. Owen Michaels increased Lincoln's lead to 3-1 after a beautiful toe-drag move, chasing Storm goaltender Joe Sharib 4:07 into the middle frame. Sharib allowed three goals on ten shots.

Treloar welcomed Daniel Allin into the game with his sixth goal of the year at the 6:31 mark of the period, whacking the puck out of the air after Josh Groll's initial shot was stopped.

Under three minutes later, Brad Morrissey, who played 33 games for Tri-City in 2018-19, added to the goal-scoring brigade with his fourth goal of the season. The University of Maine commit has lit the lamp in three consecutive games.

With the Stars already up 5-1, Matthew Barbolini undressed Allin with a forehand-backhand move for his tenth goal of the year with 6:49 left in the second period. Colby Ambrosio decreased Tri-City's deficit to 6-2, and that's where the two teams stood after forty minutes.

In the third period, Josh Lopina picked up his fifth goal of the 2019-20 campaign, elevating the home squad's lead to 7-2. Following Lopina's tally, the Stars took four consecutive penalties, opening the door for the Storm to rally back.

Tri-City scored three unanswered goals, including two power-play markers, cutting Lincoln's lead to 7-5. Sarlo halted the comeback effort with his second goal of the game and a power-play goal of his own at 16:41 of the third period. The Lynbrook, NY native registered four points (two goals, two assists) in the game following his three-point performance against Sioux City on Wednesday night.

Jake Mucitelli made 24 saves in the victory, notching his fifth win of the season. Lincoln was outshot 29-23 and went 1-for-2 on the power play and 4-for-7 on the penalty kill.
