Madison Capitols News Release
Middleton, WI - 11 penalties against the Madison Capitols were their downfall in a 6-4 loss to the Youngstown Phantoms at home on Saturday night.
Aiden Gallacher and Georgi Merkulv sandwiched the lone goal from Branden Suter in the first period for the Capitols. Suter came fresh out of the box and got behind the defense where he raced one-on-one with the goaltender for his 2ndgoal of the season on a backhanded flip assisted by Coltan Wilkie.
The teams traded goals in the 2ndas well where Ryan Kirwan found the back of the net thanks to crisp passing from Kristof Papp and Carson Bantle before Reid Pabich went coast-to-coast before sniping one far high side to cut the deficit to one.
Nikolai Jensen doubled the Youngstown lead late in the 3rdon a power play goal before the Capitols pulled their goaltender with about three minutes left in regulation. Bantle fought through pushing and shaving to slide one past Dominic Basse on the backhand and bring the Capitols back within one with 2:05 remaining in regulation.
That was the closest they'd get as John Beaton sealed the deal with an empty netter for the 6-4 Youngstown win.
Simon Latkoczy made 28 saves in the contest while taking the loss. The penalty kill finished 9-for 11 in the contest, while the power play scored once on six attempts of their own.
The Capitols return to action on Sunday, December 1stwhen they take on the US National Team Development Program for a bout at Bob Suter's Capitol Ice Arena. Puck drop is set for 3:05pm with a FREE postgame skate for everybody to follow.
