Omaha Lancers News Release
OMAHA, NE - The Omaha Lancers would look to pick up where it left off in the third period of last night's (12/29) contest with the Lincoln Stars. The Lancers had come off a 5-4 loss; having 4 of its last 5 losses coming by way of just one goal.
The Lancers would come out firing early with forward Gabe Kenne getting Omaha on the board first with a shot from the high slot to give Omaha the early 1-0 lead.
Eventually, Lincoln would get on the board themselves. However, not without controversy with forward Justin Mexico appearing to not keep the puck in the offensive zone, but the linesman ruled Lincoln to be on-side during the ensuing sequence; allowing Mexico to find an open Max Ferkodic who would put it past Lancer netminder Mikhail Yegorov; making it a tied game at one going into the second period of play.
The second period would commence with the Lancers striking first once again.
Forward Jamison Sluys would go 5-hole on Lincoln netminder Lucas Massie to give Omaha back the lead at 2-1.
Shortly thereafter, the Lancers-Stars rivalry would show its nasty side after Lancer defenseman David Posma made a clean open ice hit on Lincoln forward Aiden Janz. Lincoln forward Matthew Malatais would go after Posma after the clean hit, before Lancer forward Ryan Kusler would move in on Maltais. Lincoln defenseman Martin Masa would then move in on Kusler, and before you knew it there would be two fights at once. Kusler and Masa would get ejected for a secondary fight. Meanwhile Maltais would get ejected for getting accessed an 'Instigation' penalty.
Not long after, Lincoln forward Juan Copeland would force Lancer forward David Deputy into a scrap; making it the third fight of the middle frame.
Lincoln would eventually answer with a goal of their own, and it would be forward Blake Montgomery who would use his speed to streak up the ice and put one away top shelf to knot it back up at two apiece going into the third period of play.
The third period would provide back and forth action.
The Lancers would strike first once again with forward Drew DellaSalla with a great individual effort to take away the puck in the neutral zone before skating in and ripping one past Massie to give the Lancers a 3-2 lead.
Shortly thereafter, Lincoln would answer once again, with forward Dashel Oliver ripping one from the high slot to tie it back up at three apiece.
Eventually, Lincoln forward Blake Montgomery would find the back of the net as well, after Lancer defenseman Ryan Kroll's stick imploded on a pass, providing a lucky bounce for Lincoln giving Lincoln the eventual 4-3 win.
The Lancers are back in action tomorrow night (12/31) on the road against the Sioux City Musketeers. Puck drop is at 7:05 PM CST. You can catch the game on Mixlr or FloSports.
