Limonta's Homecoming Spoils Revs' Home Opener
April 28, 2016 - Atlantic League (AtL)
York Revolution News Release
Playing in the shadow of York's all-time greats, Sugar Land first baseman Johan Limonta hit a go-ahead three-run home run in the top of the sixth inning, leading the Skeeters past the Revolution 9-6 to spoil the Revs' opener at PeoplesBank Park on Thursday night. The Revs have now dropped four in a row and will look to get off the schneid on Friday night at 6:30.
Down 6-3 in the sixth, Josh Prince got a Sugar Land (5-3) rally going with a leadoff double down the left field line. Jeff Dominguez drew a walk before Revs reliever Tony Pena got the next two outs. With men on second on third, Pena threw a wild pitch to plate Prince and Jeremy Barfield kept the inning going with a walk. Limonta then made himself at home against Ty'Relle Harris, lofting a three-run home run that bounced off the top of the right field wall, giving the Skeeters a 7-6 lead.
From there, the Skeeter bullpen took over. Andrew Johnston (1-0) inherited the lead with scoreless fifth and sixth innings. Roy Merritt took it from there with three hitless frames to pick up his first save of the year.
York (3-5) hit Merritt hard in the seventh and eighth innings but found leather every time. Skeeter right fielder Jeff Dominguez made two diving catches to keep the Revs hitless in the eighth.
Harris (0-1) took the loss after allowing the go-ahead run in his 1.1 innings of work.
Sugar Land got the scoring going as Brooks Conrad plated Prince with a sac fly in the top of the first. The Revs responded in their half of the first as Jason Repko singled and three batters later Telvin Nash cracked a towering home run over the Arch Nemesis. The dinger was Nash's second of the year and his eighth in the last 12 games at PeoplesBank Park.
The Skeeters tied the game at 2-2 in the third on Limonta's RBI single, but York returned the favor and then some in the bottom of the frame. Michael Rockett led off with a walk, then after a strikeout, Skeeters star Barret Loux hit the next two batters in a row. Two batters later, Travis Scott let a pitch get by him, allowing Rockett to score. Joel Guzman completed the at-bat with a two-run single to left. Bryan Pounds followed with a double to the left center gap to make it 6-2.
Nash and Guzman led the way by driving in two runs apiece for the Revolution. Prince, Conrad, Scott, Limonta, and Andy LaRoche picked up a pair of hits each as part of Sugar Land's 12 base knocks.
Notes: The Revolution announced York's Franchise Four during pregame ceremonies, as current Revs infielder Andres Perez joined infielder Chris Nowak and pitchers Chris Cody and Corey Thurman as the top players in team history. York's six runs scored were its highest run output of the season. York right-hander Matt Neil gets the call against Sugar Land righty Ian Marshall on Friday night. Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 1350, woyk1350.com, and on the WOYK mobile app beginning at 6:10 p.m. with Darrell Henry and Will DeBoer on the call. Friday marks the first of the season's Celebrate York Series presented by Memorial Hospital, featuring a Gov. Tom Wolf bobblehead giveaway to the first 1,500 fans. Tickets are on sale at yorkrevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in person at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office.
