
Bees Best Bluefish in First Road Contest

Greg Golson drove in three runs and Cole Johnson pitched six strong innings as the New Britain Bees won their first ever road game, holding on take a 7-6 victory from the Bridgeport Bluefish at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard.
The Bees started hot with an RBI double coming from Jon Griffin in the top of the first inning, scoring Jovan Rosa and Kevin Rivers, who had both reached with two outs. New Britain would add to their lead in the fourth, with Steve Carrillo doubling in James Skelton to chase Bluefish starter Matt Iannazzo. After reliever Brian Moran retired Jon Jones, Greg Golson then drove in two runs on a single to extend the Bees lead to five. New Britain would add a pair of runs in the sixth inning, and capped off their scoring with.
Bridgeport got a run back off starter Cole Johnson in the sixth, the first run allowed of the season for the former Rock Cat, and tacked on a pair of runs in the seventh inning against knuckleballer Colin Moberly. In the eight, the Bluefish added another pair after Moberly got into trouble, but Grady Wood retired the final three batters of the inning after entering with the bases loaded to limit the damage. In the ninth, Craig Stem allowed a run before stranding the tying run at third base for his second save of the year.
New Britain improves to 4-4 on the year and moves into second in the Liberty Division, while Bridgeport drops to 3-5 on the season.

The Bees return home Monday, May 2nd to start a four game set against the Sugar Land Skeeters. It will be a "Match Game Monday" at New Britain Stadium with gates opening at 5:35 pm for the 6:35 pm start. The Bees will host their next Baseball in Education game at 10:35 AM on Thursday, May 4th in the series finale against Sugar Land.
