Lights FC Hosted Orange County on Cash Drop Night
September 2, 2023 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Las Vegas Lights FC News Release
Lights FC played their third game in a week by taking on Orange County SC on Cash Drop night. During the halftime break, $5,000 between cash and prizes flew down from the sky off of confetti blasters onto selected fans that scrambled on the sidelines to get their share.
Orange County SC came into the match with a seven game winning streak, being victorious in 11 of their 13 matches since the beginning of June. The Southern California side showed how hot they were from the get-go of this match with a great team play concluding with Milan Iloski opening the score in the 13th minute.
A streaking Thomas Amang was found in the box by Brian Iloski and the opportunity was capitalized by OCSC in the 22nd minute to extend their lead.
Orange County kept stacking goals, this time off of a set piece. A free kick executed by Owen Lambe was knocked into the back of the net with a header from Markus Nakkim in the 38th minute, taking a 3-0 lead into the halftime break.
Las Vegas striker Danny Rios continued his hot ways on the pitch, scoring his fourth goal in three games by chipping the ball in at the 69th minute of play, avoiding a clean sheet for goalkeeper Colin Shutler.
OCSC wasn't done as they buried two more goals courtesy of Marc McNulty and Kevin Lankford to leave the final score 5-1 in favor of Orange County. This was Lights FC's first defeat by more than 3 goals in the 2023 season.
